PRACTICING PRESENCE

Hello and welcome back! As we return to routine from Spring Break, I am reminded of why stepping away from the day to day is so important, for all of us. Last week, Carson experienced turquoise water for the first time (bonus, we even saw a few sea turtles!). Kids are SO good at being in the present moment, aren’t they? He would have slept on that beach if we let him, he couldn’t get enough. “Mom, this is a dream of mine happening right now!”, he repeated over and over. You could feel and see the joy all over his body! How often do we reach a goal or benchmark in work or life, a place we use to dream about and let it pass too quickly? We tend to move on, longing for what’s next without really downloading how far we’ve come or notice what’s here right now. While we may not be ten years old, experiencing our toes in turquoise water for the first time, we can practice presence. We can direct our mind to tune in and notice what is working, be present with the wins of this moment.
One of the most frequently addressed topics in my coaching practice and in my own life is around fulfillment. It’s a monster topic with many layers and so important. Fulfillment is all about creating and acknowledging big and small ways our life fills us up in the present moment. It’s learning to fall in love with the process of where we are going, and we can’t do that if we aren’t practicing presence. There are simple ways we are already showing up for our life when we look for them. Early this week, I hopped on the bike for 30 minutes after taking a week off. It was a hot mess but after my vision and breath was fully restored, this one small promise I made to myself became momentum that carried me through what turned out to be a very challenging day. How? I claimed it as a win, assigned it meaning and used it for fuel. Celebrating wins as a daily practice doesn’t wait for “someday”, it reminds us of the life we are living right now. I challenge you to take two minutes and pause--what can you celebrate today? Keep it simple--it can be anything. Use it for motivation and guidance moving forward.
Let's celebrate the last week of the quarter, how did it go? This week, I invite you to reflect on what went well and what you will take with you.
Where are you being invited to stretch?
How will you pivot to move forward?
How has the first quarter of 2022 informed and inspired you?
Where is it telling you to focus your attention and energy right now?
Reflection is a gateway to experiencing fulfillment in the here and now--on the way to where you are headed. YOU are the creator of your wins, make time to celebrate them!
